Mulkirigala

Tangalle,on the south coast of Sri Lanka boasts some excellent tourist facilities. One such place is the Mulkirigala Temple-almmost a duplicate of the rock fortress of sigiriya. There is a defference though - because Mulkirigala does not have a place but several buildings layered on different levels of treacherouse rock The monastery is roughly 13 miles away from Tangalle and can be reached by vehicle alone a road that goes through Beliatte.Just off the road, looming through dense foliage, the rock of Mulkirigala rises 692ft in all its majestic gloru.

The rock temple is shrouded in the sands of time, its history dating back to thousands of years ago and one certainly gets that feeling when looking at the lovely murals, mellowed with age.there is a monasrery for the monks and the very surroundings of the temple offer absolute oneness with nature. The temple on the rock is certainly worth a glimpse into Sri Lanka's glorious past. Mulkirigala is an important part of this country's colourful history.
