Namal Uyana, bearing South East Asia's largest rose pink quartz mountain range steeped in rich legend,is situated about 159km north of colombo in the sleepy helmet of Ulpathgama, Galkiriyagama, in the Anuradhapura District.According to folklore,Moghul Emperor shah jehan had used pink quartz mined from this unique range,to build the world famous monument Taj Mahal .Today,this proud national heritage with ruins of an ancient vihara and rock enclaves has been declared an Archaeological Reserve by the Goverment, thank to the tireless efforts of Ven.Vanavasi Rahul Thero who made it his abode for meditation,some thirteen years ago.
